Quavone

Originally from Flint, Michigan, Quavone arrived in Chicago with a dream—to turn his life around and pursue a future in the solar industry. Having spent the last decade without steady employment, he was eager for an opportunity that could give him both the skills and stability he needed.

Through the 548 Foundation, Quavone found exactly what he was looking for. Not only did he learn the technical skills necessary for solar installation, but he also gained a wide range of knowledge in carpentry, electrical work, and more. The program’s comprehensive approach to sustainable energy gave him hands-on experience and a deeper understanding of the industry, fueling his passion for real estate. “Solar is going to make my real estate more valuable,” Quavone says, explaining how he plans to integrate his newfound expertise into future projects.

What stood out to Quavone most, however, was the program’s emphasis on life skills. He credits the 548 Foundation with teaching him how to work collaboratively, think critically before reacting, and communicate effectively—skills he recognizes as essential for both personal and professional growth.

Before joining the program, Quavone hadn’t had a job in ten years. Now, he’s not only building a career, but also setting an example for his children. “This program has turned my life around,” he shares. “It’s given me an actual career to work hard for and show my kids the man I’ve become.”

Refecting on his experience, Quavone wishes more communities, especially those in underserved areas like his hometown of Flint, had access to programs like the 548 Foundation. “Our people don’t get a lot of opportunities like this,” he says. The program’s impact, both on his life and in the community, has been nothing short of transformative.

As Quavone looks ahead, he is excited about the future—both as a professional in the solar industry and as a real estate investor—thanks to the skills and confdence he gained through the 548 Foundation. His story is a testament to the power of second chances, and the lasting change that education and opportunity can bring.
